Inquiry and Consultation

Start by completing the inquiry form and telling me a little about your home, what you’d like to change, your timing and the scope of the project. If it sounds like we may be a good fit, we’ll schedule a phone consultation to talk through the project, answer your questions and discuss what working together would look like.

After our consultation, I’ll define the scope of the project and prepare a proposal outlining the design services and fees. Once the proposal, contract and retainer are in place, we’re ready to begin.

Design and Presentation

I develop the complete design for your home, which may include space planning, cabinetry and millwork, finishes, lighting, furnishings, fabrics and custom pieces. I’ll present the design as a complete vision, and we’ll review and refine it together before moving forward.

Purchasing, Implementation & Installation

Once the design is approved, I coordinate purchasing and work directly with your contractor, trades, vendors and workrooms to bring everything together. As construction is completed and furnishings arrive, we finish the rooms with artwork, window treatments and the details that make the home feel complete.

That’s where I come in. I see possibilities you may not have considered—the better layout, the detail that changes the room, the unexpected piece that makes everything else click. Marilyn Greene Interiors offers full-service residential interior design for renovations, new construction, and complete room or multi-room projects. I guide the project from the earliest design decisions through installation, helping you make confident choices while keeping the overall vision for your home in focus.

Depending on the scope of your project, full-service design may include space planning, kitchens and baths, cabinetry and millwork, lighting, finishes, furnishings, custom upholstery, rugs, window treatments, art and accessories.

I also work closely with contractors, cabinetmakers, workrooms, installers and other trades throughout the project. I review details, answer design questions and help resolve the decisions that arise along the way so that the design we create together is carried through to the finished space.

Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve never worked with an interior designer before. What should I expect?

You don’t need to know exactly what you want before you call me. Most clients come to me with a mix of ideas, frustrations and things they know they love. I look at all of that alongside the architecture of your home, your personal style and the way you actually live, then use those pieces to give the project a clear direction. From there, I guide you through the decisions in a logical order so you’re never trying to figure out everything at once.

How involved will I be in the design process?

Very. I don’t want to design a house that looks like mine—I want it to feel like yours. I’ll bring you edited choices and ideas I think are right for the project, but we make the important decisions together. You stay involved without having to spend your evenings researching every option or wondering whether one decision is going to create a problem somewhere else.

Can you work with furniture, art or antiques I already own?
Absolutely. The things you’ve collected are often what make a room interesting. A painting, an antique chest, a favorite chair or something inherited can give us a starting point. I consider those pieces along with the architecture of the house and your own style, then build around them so the finished rooms feel collected, personal and appropriate to the home—not as though everything was chosen all at once.

Do I need to have a contractor before contacting you?
No. In fact, it can be very helpful to involve me before construction decisions start being made. If you already have a contractor, I’m happy to work with them. If you don’t, I have trusted contractors, custom cabinet makers, kitchen cabinetry specialists, fabric workrooms and other trades I can bring into the project when they’re needed.

Do you work directly with contractors and trades?
Yes—and this is a big part of full-service design. I communicate directly with contractors, cabinetmakers, workrooms and installers about the design details, answer questions as they come up and help solve the inevitable things that weren’t obvious on paper. I also have a network of trusted tradespeople, fabric workrooms and trade-only furnishing resources that I can draw on to help bring the design to life. You’re still kept informed, but you don’t have to be the person coordinating every conversation yourself.

Do you offer decorating or furniture-only services?
I work on full-service projects because that’s where I can make the biggest difference. I want to be able to look at the room as a whole—the layout, lighting, cabinetry, finishes, furnishings and details—and bring the right people and resources to the project. That includes access to trade furnishings, custom upholstery and workrooms, as well as the contractors and craftspeople needed to carry the design through. If your project needs that kind of complete approach, that’s where I’m most useful.
